The Role Of Colour Is To Make Websites Look Good by Karra Maxim

Designing for the world wide web involves several skilled disciplines from layout to type and colour. Colour is particularly pivitol because it gives the user's first impression. the correct colours can create a great experience for the user, whilst inappropriate colours can have a negative impact.

To build a good site, the web designer needs to know how colours can affect people. people often subconsciously react to colours and associate them with different feelings and emotions.

Colours do not only bring up emotions and feelings that might influence how a site is seen but they can also be cleverly utilised to point users in the direction of specific sections of your web site.

Every single colour that you can think of can be used on the web these days, so picking the right colours can be a mammoth task. here's a swift summary of how some colours can provoke certain reactions.

Black is associated with power, sophistication, finances and mystery. in design, it can be effectively used with livelier colours to create great contrast.

White is linked with cleanliness, simplicity, calm and purity. used a lot on websites, it can convey style and indicates that the content of the site is strong enough to stand-alone without a strong visual aid.

With connotations to passion, annoyance, fire and power, red, used delicately, can be a fantastic way to direct the user's attention to a certain area.

The colour black can be associated with death, mourning, power & style. several heavy metal bands use black as their predominant colour due to its associations with death & evil.

Yellow summons up visions of summer, joy & optimism. its a colour that can be overwhelming & if used alongside with black, it creates a feeling of warning.

Just like yellow, red is a colour that is associated with love, sex & energy. it can be overpowering if over used, but it is fantastic to attract attention.

Orange is a colour that's linked to vibrancy, heat, fire & energy. A therapeutic colour, it could be used in designing web sites to demonstrate openness.

Purple isn't a truly popular colour in designing web sites, because its perceived as quite girly & can give the impression of arrogance, riches, luxury & indulgence.

Darker shades of purple can be truly deep and luscious. it can be associated with royalty, spirituality, arrogance and luxury. the lighter end of the spectrum can represent romance and delicacy. its a colour that is not used very often on web sites.

Full of energy, vibrancy and stimulation, orange is a exciting colour to use in designing for the web. it can be used to bring youthfulness to a design.

The role of colour is not just to make a website look good, it can encourage feelings & emotions from the audience. selecting colours that irritate the end user can have detrimental effects on your site, whereas cleverly selecting could mean that the site lives up to the user's expectations.
