What is Content Management? by Matthew Jones

It's all very well having a website, but just like a leaflet, flyer or advertisment the most important aspect of a website is its content...

Content Management is all about keeping your website up to date and accurate so that it constantly reflects what is going on in the rest of your business.

But unless you have your own website development team continually updating your websites content can prove inconvenient and expensive.

Content Management Systems

As a result the Content Management System was born, usually called CMS for short. In general, a CMS makes it easy to update your own website, with no technical knowledge required. This meant that instead of having to hire out web developers everytime you want to update your website, you can make almost any changes you like yourself.

It's just like having a car that you can fix yourself without the need to be a mechanic.

Typical CMS Features

Listed below are some of the most commonly found features within a Content Management System.

Update textual content Add pictures and videos

Create your own blog where your visitors can comment on your website Change contact details Change the appearance and feel of your website View information and statistics about your website

Blue Stag Studio built their own CMS which they provide to clients, but they also use it to update their own website. In fact, this article was published through the CMS.

So, that's content management in a nutshell.
